Brooklyn sweeps series 4 games to 0.  Brooklyn advances to round 2 Clemente championships vs Indiana Red Birds.

Brooklyn Press release

(AP) Press release Brooklyn, NY, House of Pain, 21:30 10/16/2006

Brooklyn fans are rockin and tearing through Prospect Park. The Arch at Grand Army Plaza
was constructed and designed to commemorate the Union victory. However to the hearts of Brooklyn
millions of Superba fans it is known as the Brooklyn Victory Arch. It represents Brooklyn's winning
legacy in CBA. People know it in Brooklyn not for thrill of war against their dear southern brothers but
a celebration of baseball and winning for their beloved Superbas.
Back in 1997, sports columnists from the Quebec area and teams from Dawson in particular joked that "Superbas"
meant "Good Underware". They taunted the Brooklyn Boys of the House O' Pain with references.
By 1998 they laugh no more as Brooklyn took the Dawson crown behind the pitching of Halladay, Ramon Martinez,
and Rick Reed. For 8 of their 10 years Brooklyn has had a winning record regularly achieving 90+ wins,
and reaching the playoffs, only to be stopped short before reaching the finals. Brooklyn had been to the
conference championships several times. In recent years, 2002 lost to Philly, 2003 Lost in W.S. to Limoilou,
won the championship in 2004 and now back to the Clemente finals in 2006. Last season they were
eliminated 4 games to 1 by the Lake County Leopards whom they faced in a grudge rematch from last year.
The fans were at fever pitch for this series. From Lou Luke in Bensonhurst shooting roman candles at
anything with spots on it, to Tony BiFonzaruki of Sheepshead Bay making Gold and Black Knishes.
From Ziteric Bluitskyap of Brighton Beach wearing his Black and Gold Socks with his open toe sandals,
to Rahmel Jacksoy of Brownsville's Ocean Hill Blastin the new Superbas song on his radio,Brooklyn is
in a winning happy mood.
Brooklyn has reached the championships again defeating the Lake county Leopards in a 4 game
sweep. The fans left the H.O.P. and then swarmed to and over the nearby Brooklyn Superbas Victory memorial.
Fans held a rally to express their gratitude for a winning season and hope in an impending series
against the Indiana RedBirds also of the Parker division. Brooklyn fired on all cylinders in this series
with their pitching doing a great job against Lake Counties hitters.

In game 1 Bartolo Colon pitched a mighty 4 hit 6 K 9 inn shutout. Colon had been inconsistant all year settling
in at the end of the season. He was lights out in this game given the nob over Willis as game 1 starter.
Jose Vidro starred with 2 long doubles driving in 3 runs in a 4-0 victory. Brooklyn had 10 hits.

In game 2, Dontrelle got the start. Dontrelle was also marvelous limiting the Lakers over 8 1/3 to 3 runs
1 on a HR to Eddie Perez, the other a big Frank Thomas blast. He gave way to Mariano Rivera who closed it out
for Brooklyn. But the real story was Vernon "Sugar Bear" Wells who delighted his team mates with 2 prodigious
HR's to give Brooklyn the win. His 2nd in the 8th inn was a blast that broke a deadlocked game at 3.
Brooklyn achieved their goal taking two in Lake County.

Back home at the House of Pain it was a different story. The faithful knew from past experience with Limoilou that
Brooklyn had to win this day. They had to take what they wanted in their own house Coors Filed dubbed "house of Pain".
The opposition couldn't get comfortable as Brooklyns fans were making the House shake.
Some say that the stadium has a specially designed foundation to accentuate the rocking giving the appearance of
something frightening to opponents. Fans have speculated for years and opponents insist, but no one has
confirmed. Game 3 was a Superba kinda day. The Leopards opened up with a 2 run lead on a Manny
Ramirez 2 run HR only to have Brooklyn come right back in the bottom of the 1st with a sac fly by Wells and a 2 out
JD Drew basehit. Halladay pitching for Brooklyn was able to escape a jam in the top 2nd with 2 on by getting
Willie Taveras to pop out in the clutch. In the bottom 2nd, Drew walked again (9 walks in the series)
and Ivan Rod singled him to 2nd. Adam Everett not known for his bat in 2006, lashed a run scoring single to put BSP up by 1.
In the third Brooklyn's Helton singled and cabrera doubled second and third. The Lakers intentionally walked
Ryan Howard to face Vernon Wells who singled in 1. A wild pitch added another, and Jay Payton lofted a fly to score
Howard. Both teams exchanged a few zeros when in the 5th Payton singled in another Brooklyn run. Back came Lake County.
Rollins and Ramirez singled, and moved to 2nd and 3rd on a wild pitch. With Delgado up, Brooklyn stuck with Halladay vs
Delgado and got him to lineout into a max double play. The fans went wild in Brooklyn.
With the Leopards within easy strike Brooklyn looked to put the game out of reach in the 6th. After loading the bases,
Lake County brought in lefty Aaron Fultz to pitch to JD Drew. Brooklyn countered by bringing Brooklyn's pal Sal Fasano
to the plate. In huge Brooklyn moment the 260 lb Sideburned Fu Manchu'ed catcher hit a long
pinch hit Grand Slam HR, BSp scoring 5 that inning, and basically that was all she went as
Brooklyn won 11-3.

Game 4 was tougher. Brooklyn pitching Colon on 3 days rest got off to a 2-0 start when Vidro doubled and Helton HR's in the
1st, and Todd Helton HR'd. In the third Brooklyn added another on another Todd Helton RBI single.
Lake came back in the 4th scoring 3 runs on 4 singles by the 4 R's in the lineup! Rollins, Ramirez, John Rodriguez,
and Ryan Church. With the score tied the Leopards wouldn't go with out a fight. Brooklyn came right back with 3 more
in the bottom when BSP got 3 singles in a row from Howard, Wells, and Drew. Ivan Rodriguez then cleared the bases
with a booming double and Brooklyn held a 6-3 lead. In the 5th Castillo, Taveras, and Rollins singled to drive
home another 2 runs cutting the lead to 6-5 BSP. With Delgado up, BSP brought in lefty Ron Villone and in a
key moment induced Delgado to ground weakly to 3rd base to end the threat. But not for long.
A few innings and player moves later and Gary Geary faced PH Larry Walker who laced a single.
A Castillo bunt set Willy Taveras to atone for his poor hitting, and he laced a run scoring double to make
the score 5-4 BSP. In the 8th Hasagawa now pitching hit Carlos Delgado and gave up a single to John Rodriguez.
With 1st and 2nd, Mariano Rivera was summoned. He promptly struck out the side to end the threat still 5-4.
In the 9th he mowed the first two batters but Jose Vidro inexplicably not defensively subbed for,
booted a ball allowing the runner on 1st with 2 out. Up came Manny Ramirez who absolutely balsted a pitch over the LF
wall to give the Leopards a 6-5 lead. Rivera got the last out. But in the bottom 9th with 1 out , Mike Jacobs PH,
hit the first Derek Turnbow pitch he saw high and deep to RCF for a game tying HR. The crowd was all over itself
jumping up and down and rolling on the floor. They just knew what would follow. After Adam Everett skied to LF,
Juan Castro now in at 2B, walked, and series star Todd Helton blasted a deep drive over the head of Taveras in CF.
With a 1-9 chance for Castro to score, Brooklyn took a chance and sent castro prompting a long throw from the
rifle armed Taveras. The throw went wise and Castro scored sending the minions into a frenzy and rushing the
field. Brooklyn had successfully swept rival Lake County in 4 games to advance and face the Bob Fidler led Red Birds.
in Indiana later this week.

It was great series for Brooklyn and now that the celebrating is done, serious plans are being made by BSP
to take on and perhaps the mighty Red Birds of the heartland.

Bartolo Colon pitched 9 strong innings as the Brooklyn Superbas beat the Lake
County Leopards by a score of 4 to 0.

Brooklyn tallied 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. J.D. Drew led off and
he drew a walk. Ivan Rodriguez stepped up next and he banged out a single,
and an error was also committed. After another out, Adam Everett dug into
the batters box next, but he struck out. Jose Vidro came up and he doubled
driving home two runs. That early scoring was all that Colon(1-0) needed.
Brooklyn finished with 10 hits in the victory.

Josh Beckett(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits
and 5 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. 'I've been working on a few things in my
delivery, and I think I'm hitting a good groove.' Colon said after the game.
'I'm ready to start another game tomorrow!'

Vernon Wells ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Brooklyn Superbas beat the
Lake County Leopards by a score of 4 to 3.

Wells was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided
much of the offense for the visitors. He popped a two-run clout over the
fence in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 4th inning and delivered a solo blast
(his 2nd of the season) in the 8th inning. Brooklyn finished with 11 hits
while Lake County ended up with 6.

Dontrelle Willis(1-0) got the win allowing 3 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Willis
got help from Mariano Rivera who was credited with his 1st save. Clay
Hensley(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief.

and he drew a walk. Todd Helton then doubled giving Brooklyn the victory as
44,846 happy fans celebrated wildly. Brooklyn totaled 12 on the night.
