In a close game it was the Ottawa Otters 11, the Newton Bombs 9 at The
Skydome.

Ottawa jumped on top of Newton in the bottom of the 7th inning when they came
up with 2 runs on 2 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Justin Upton
who excited the crowd when he cleared the fences for a two-run home run.
Ottawa simply wore out the Newton pitching staff, scoring in 6 different
innings.

Scott Atchison(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3
innings. Luke Gregerson recorded the save, his 1st. Craig Breslow(0-1) was
tagged with the loss in relief.

The Ottawa Otters nipped the Newton Bombs 5 to 4 at Comerica Park in a hard
fought contest.

Newton was unable to climb back into it after Ottawa went ahead for good in
the 3rd inning plating one baserunner using 2 hits. The Newton batters
didn't put up a fight in the bottom of the 9th.

The win was credited to Bartolo Colon(1-0) who went 7 innings allowing 4 runs.
Luke Gregerson recorded the save, his 2nd. Stephen Strasburg(1-1) was the
loser. He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.

'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Colon, 'I was just
giving us a chance to win.'

Darvish(1-0) was on top of his game. He gave up just 6 hits and 2 walks in 9
innings. Ottawa had a total of 12 hits for the game.

Rafael Soriano(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. He was not very
effective, surrendering 3 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.

Darvish was humble when questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty
confident in my pitches this afternoon. But, I had great support behind me
and I just threw what was called. That was an extremely well called game!'

Ruben Tejada hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI at The Skydome as the Newton Bombs
beat the Ottawa Otters by the count of 7 to 5.

Newton went ahead for good in the top of the 2nd inning plating 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits. David Freese opened up the inning nicely when he drew
a walk. Michael McKenry was next and he singled. Justin Maxwell dug into
the batters box next, but he struck out. Tejada followed and he doubled.
After another out, Austin Jackson was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.
Ottawa threatened in the 9th but Newton was able to put down the rally.

Chris Sale(1-0) went 7 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Hisashi
Iwakuma(0-2) was charged with the loss. He was touched for 8 hits and 2
walks in 3 and 1/3 innings.

Jack Jung was subdued when questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of loss
takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've been
through this many times - it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine - as
for me - I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!'

Brandon Moss blasted 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Gio Gonzalez went 5 and one
third strong innings as the Newton Bombs topped the Ottawa Otters by a score
of 9 to 0 at The Skydome.

Moss was really in 'the zone'. He belted a three-run homer in the 3rd inning,
doubled in the 5th inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run in
the 6th inning. Newton had 11 hits for the game and Ottawa had 3.

The win went to Gonzalez(1-1) who allowed no runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.
Bartolo Colon(1-1) took the loss. He surrended 3 homeruns in his 5 and 2/3
innings.

'They made a couple of mistakes and I took full advantage,' Moss said 'next
time I'm sure they'll pitch me tougher.'
