Roosters Return to Hemingway Field with Roster Shakeup: Taylor Walls In, Tucker to IL

Story:

The Key West Roosters are back from the road and making moves, returning to Hemingway Field with a retooled roster and a fresh sense of urgency.

In a bold front-office move, the team traded a pair of minor league prospects to the Newton Minutemen for veteran shortstop Taylor Walls. Known for his elite glove and clubhouse grit, Walls is expected to immediately anchor the Roosters’ infield and bring leadership to a roster hungry for stability.

“We didn’t make this move to plug a hole,” said manager Casey Standroid. “We made it to get better right now—and Taylor makes us better.”

The boost comes at a cost, though. MVP candidate Kyle Tucker has been placed on the injured list with a sore right shoulder. The outfielder has been a force in the lineup all season, and his absence leaves a major offensive void.

To help fill the gap, the Roosters signed outfielder Jack Suwinski to a split contract for the remainder of the season. Suwinski had been training with the Roosters’ minor league affiliate, the Treasure Island Hooks, and was reportedly in strong form heading into the call-up.

“He’s earned this shot,” said GM Ian Baer. “He knows our system, and he brings the kind of pop and hustle that fits the Roosters’ style.”

Key West returns home with a 15–9 record and sits atop the Parker Division, looking to build momentum with a refreshed roster and a packed homestand ahead.

I'm 58, based in NYC, married and (mostly) an empty nester. I live and work downtown in the Wall Street area, and own a marketing strategy and insights firm called Sooth. I've been involved in Strat since I was 9, have played in other strategy/sim baseball leagues since the 1990s, and CBA is my first Strat League in years. But I am a total baseball nerd.

When it comes to the Key West Roosters, my CBA expansion franchise, you'll see our roster reflects my overall philosophy of building around gifted position players and collecting young arms. The resulting 24-man roster has plenty of firepower (a foundation of Judge, Tucker, and Contreras) and plenty of holes (especially infielders), and some very promising players down on the farm. While I am not aggressively looking to make any deals before the draft, I'm certainly open to thoughts and proposals. One player who could be available for the right package is Tyler Glasnow, who will likely have more value to a top contender than a rebuilding team like mine. Feel free to reach out with any ideas -- although if they include Judge, Tucker, Contreras, or any of my top prospects, I am unlikely to bite. I'm focused on having a team in regular contention beginning in 2026, and if I scrape my way into a playoff spot and give the kids some postseason reps in '25, all the better.
