Roosters Return to Hemingway Field with Roster Shakeup: Taylor Walls In, Tucker to IL
Byline:
Key West, FL — ESPN.com
Story:
The Key West Roosters are back from the road and making moves, returning to Hemingway Field with a retooled roster and a fresh sense of urgency.
In a bold front-office move, the team traded a pair of minor league prospects to the Newton Minutemen for veteran shortstop Taylor Walls. Known for his elite glove and clubhouse grit, Walls is expected to immediately anchor the Roosters’ infield and bring leadership to a roster hungry for stability.
“We didn’t make this move to plug a hole,” said manager Casey Standroid. “We made it to get better right now—and Taylor makes us better.”
The boost comes at a cost, though. MVP candidate Kyle Tucker has been placed on the injured list with a sore right shoulder. The outfielder has been a force in the lineup all season, and his absence leaves a major offensive void.
To help fill the gap, the Roosters signed outfielder Jack Suwinski to a split contract for the remainder of the season. Suwinski had been training with the Roosters’ minor league affiliate, the Treasure Island Hooks, and was reportedly in strong form heading into the call-up.
“He’s earned this shot,” said GM Ian Baer. “He knows our system, and he brings the kind of pop and hustle that fits the Roosters’ style.”
Key West returns home with a 15–9 record and sits atop the Parker Division, looking to build momentum with a refreshed roster and a packed homestand ahead.
