Washington was a new franchise in 2000 as Canadian River Ball Yard Rats stepped aside for Strat Vet Dan DiVirgilio. He lasted 3 years finishing the 2000 season 55-107 and finishing worse in 2001 at 45-117. Nick Yurchuk came aboard in 2002 and brought home a 17 game improvement to 62-100 .  He was quite overwhelmed by the dizzying possibilties of rebuilding, and left after the season. In 2003 That franchise later became the present Dawson champion Joliet Jackhammers under the initials JJS in the Schmidt division. In 2004 they moved to Dawson. They became the Tinley Park Watchmen when Matt Lamphear took over for a released GM.

Carlos Beltran slammed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Roger Clemens delivered 9
solid innings as the Montreal Royals smashed the overmatched struggling
Joliet Jackhammers, 21 to 1.

Beltran was really in 'the zone'. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the
1st inning, smacked a three-run homer (his 17th of the season) in the 2nd
inning, doubled which plated a run in the 5th inning, lined a single in the
7th inning and delivered a one-base hit in the 8th inning. Montreal kept the
scorekeepers busy in the 2nd inning which saw them plate 7 runs on 7 hits and
the 8th inning with 6 runs on 6 hits. Montreal dominated offensively as they
scored in 6 different innings.

Clemens(5-3) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 1 run. The loss was
charged to Ryan Franklin(2-5). 'I thought it was my best performance in a
long time,' said Clemens. 'I had good command early in the game. I had my
control and composure and everything went well.'
