The wildcard round saw Longue Pointe and their pitching staff dominate over David Jones Lake County Leopards. Lake County took game 1 behind Johnny Cueto's masterful pitching. Then it was CC Sabathia, Tim Lincecum, and CJ Wilson shutting the door to advance the Loggers to the Conference playoffs vs Joe Wallace's powerful San Diego Surf.
The Clemente Wildcard saw Rob Hite's Philly Phantastics sweep Marc Wass' Brooklyn Superbas in 3 straight. Although Verlander, Hamels, and Brandon Morrow stifled the potent Brooklyn Superbas attack in the House of Pain, It was Eric Hosmer who single handedly and legendarily executed the Brooklyn boys with 5 Homers 2 doubles 9 RBI's and 7-11 batting. Not to be forgotten anytime soon.
CBA 2012 Wildcard Staub Conference
In round 1 of the Staub Playoffs, Doug Brunet's Montreal Crows swept past Cory Light's Bryan Bashers behind superior pitching in tight ball games. Both first time managers, but someone had to win. Montreal will play against the LP vs. SD winner. Rob Hite's Philly Phantastics defeated Malachi Nellum's Stirling Red Sox 4 games to 3 in an epic and well played series. The Skokie wolfmen defeated the Cooperstown Iron Horses 4 games to 1. Wolfman is looking at yet another Conference final to add to his resume.

This is where the big boys meet and play. The dedicated,
the lucky, the astute, the confident, the best in CBA ball for 2012. Last year
Saw Brooklyn Defeat San Diego in 5 games for the 2011 Championship as Miguel
Cabrera dominated the post season like no other has since. Cabrera had 10 HR's
and led his team. Who will this years hero be? We saw magnificent perfomances
so far that will be archived for future reference. Performances Like Johnny
Cueto's shutout over Longue Pointe on opening day. Eric Hosmer single handedly
destroying Brooklyn's dream of repeat with 5 HR's in a 3 game wildcard. Montreal
terrorizing the Bashers behind masterful pitching by James Shields. Allen
Craig's timely PH. Nyger Morgan's .469 batting average leading Longue Point
over deep into the 2nd round. Billy Butlers 13 hits and .409 BA for Stirling vs
Philly. Sandoval's 3 HR's for Bryan. Jared Weaver's gem vs red hot Skokie for
Cooperstown. Perhaps not many bigger highs and lows than we saw in the LP-SD
series which turned after an 8th Inning boot by Yunel Escobar in g5. The hero,
Nick Hundley with a long Homer to win the series for San Diego against the
speedy small ball artistry of the Loggers.
Now we have two repeaters looking for their opportunity for gold. We have GM
Doug Brunet who makes his first appearance in the final four. The Skokie
Wolfman. Veteran GM with a record of success each year. He has been to the
dance, but unable to claim the ring. There's CBA legend Rob Hite. All Hite
does is win. We learned in 2012, never count Philly out. He even threw down
the towel so he says. A towel chuck right into the playoffs ala Indiana. Seems
to work in Clemente. Hite is a 3 time champion looking for his fourth. In CBA
Jeff Boutet has 3, Bob Fidler 3, Marc Wass 2, Jack Jung 1, Dennis Concepcion 1,
among active GM's. Although some forget the losers, no Finals runner up is a
loser. No shame losing in the Conf Champ. Only shame if your a former champion
who gets blown out in 3 straight in the wild card round. Staub has last won a
World Championship in 2005 when Dennis defeated Rob Hite, the year of Miracle
Mirabelli and Ichiro's series and GW HR. Clemente has dominated since then.
Rounding out the managers is the long time veteran Joe Wallace. Joe Wallace has
built a long runniing dominant franchise in San Diego. Holder of the all time
best season with 122 wins, San Diego and Wallace have been there and paid some
heavy dues, slowly building up from first round and outs, the game 7's in the
second round a few years back (Archives has it), and finally a Staub
Championship and World Series appearance. After last years disappointment,
Wallace revamped his squad, and brought aboard the powerful Mike Stanton sending
King Felix to New Jersey where Hernandez helped improve their record from last
year. Wallace vowed to add power and did. He seeks yet another series
appearance after his hard fought battle vs Longue Pt. Games commence Oct 17th
on the schedule. Rest has been given. Please submit MVP's for each series
decided by both GM's

Game 1
Hamels vs Cain
Philly could only get 4 hits vs Cain and Adams as Skokie got some key two out
hits to win 4-1 no homers for two home run teams. Right fielder Jason
Bourgeois had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Skokie Wolfmen defeated the Philly
Phantastics 4 to 1 at Morrison Memorial. Matt Cain(1-1) pitched well for
Skokie in their victory. He went 7 and 1/3 innings surrendering 4 hits and 3
walks. Skokie out-hit Philly for the game, 9 hits to 4. Cain got relief
help from Mike Adams who gained credit for his 1st save. Cole Hamels(1-3) was
the loser. He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 2/3 innings.
Game 2
Morrow vs Vogelsong
Philly came out striking the iron 1-0 in the first and third one out, batter
hits into double play - due to two erros by Castro in the first Skokie took 4-1
lead, a few homers its was 7-1, Cruz homer 7-2 but that was all Philly could do
against Vogelsong, Holland, Cassilla. The Skokie Wolfmen had very little
trouble at Morrison Memorial downing thePhilly Phantastics. The score was 7 to
2. Ryan Vogelsong(1-0) labored throughout the game but hung around to
record a
victory. He gave up 2 runs in 5 innings. Skokie and Philly each finished
the night with 10 hits. Brandon Morrow(1-1) was the losing pitcher. He allowed
Skokie 7 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings of work.
Game 3 - it was home run city in Philly town
- Skokie was facing Philly's ace, Verlander who could face Skokie's ace (in the
real world series) -- and Skokie had Humber - with 2 outs Molina who had a very
big game (knocking in 5 runs with a double and 2 HRs) gave Skokie a 1-0 lead in
the first but ex-Wolfman A. Craig blasted a 2 run shot to give Philly a 2-1 lead
- we knew blood was going to be spilled in this game Then Skokie went Crazy
again Upton hits a homer,Molina a 3 run shot, Uggla hits a homer and at the end
of 2 innings its 7-2 Skokie but Rob Hite is Mr. Philly and he never gives up
Philly made a mistake in the 4th with runners on 2nd & 3rd and only one out a
ground ball scored it to 8-3 (BTW the hitting machine of E. Hosmer kept Philly
in the game and promptly hits 3 home runs in a row so after Beltre homers to
make it 9-4 Mr. Hosmer (who also had 5 RBIs) and crew made it 9-8 in the 7th -
Skokie was getting a little bit concerned, Adams couldn't stop the Philly boys
in the 7th but he did in the 8th - then Molina hits his second home run (a total
of 9 home runs in this game, might be a record) to make it 10-8 so Skokie
watches another 9th like it saw with Cooperstown, 2 hours, men on base, the
hitter at the plate is the winning run 1st and 2nd, two outs, Mayberry up -
Skokie brings in their
supposed closer League - who hasn't seen much action, to relieve Adams - then
the game stops on us right as I am waiting for Mayberry to roll - we have to
save the game - totally get out and then play this moment so its 10-8, 1st and
2nd, two outs, Mayberry vs League 5-6 groundout - Skokie is miraculously up 3-0
- after
Philly defeated the champion Superbas , and came from 3-2 to take Stirling does
Philly have enough magic to come back and win in seven - we will find out
Wednesday.
